Raise the roof on an old cottage?

We are about to buy an old cottage and renovate it for year-round living. The living area is only 45 sqm on the ground floor and the ceiling height is only about 1.80-1.90 on the upper floor. Therefore, we are considering taking off the roof, building up the exterior wall a bit, and then putting the roof back on. How do you do this in the best way?

The wall consists of logs and goes up about 0.5 m above the floor on the upper floor. Should we continue with a few log courses (a technique I absolutely do not master) or build up with a low stud frame?

New roof trusses: Can we make them ourselves? Hire an architect to design them? Regular gable roof or Mansard roof to gain even more space?

Hoping for some answers and recommendations to clear the fog a bit :-/

Hire a carpenter to add a few more layers of logs or buy another house are my suggestions. Proportions are important and there's a risk the cottage might get an undesirable appearance, so an architect and some drawings are probably a must.

Yes, the proportions can indeed worsen with such an intervention. I took a picture of the house and played around with it in an image editing program to see how a raised roof might look. It could work.

Anyway, it seems the price of the house is going beyond our intended budget, so it will probably be another house - without the need for a roof raise.
