Hello!

I have a wood-burning stove in the living room that was installed by the previous owners. Behind it, a fresh air channel goes in/out through the wall, and it's insulated with rock wool and "protected" by a folded metal sheet, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Our one-year-old has found it and loves to play with the insulation. I'm considering what material I can use to make a new cover, or if it must be exclusively metal. How would you have done it?

Best regards,
Marcus

  • A white wood-burning fireplace in a living room with a glass door and metal frame. A duct is visible behind the fireplace.
  • Metal plate covering wall insulation made of mineral wool. The plate is bent, revealing the insulation behind. Issue with child safety protection.
  • Wood floor with scattered insulation pieces next to a bookshelf and fireplace in a living room.
Is it not possible to screw the sheet metal in place? Otherwise, if you are going to build new protection, it should be non-combustible, e.g., gypsum board. It should be quite easy to put together a hood and screw it to the wall.

Thanks for the response!

Well, at least not so that all the insulation is covered. Drywall is an alternative I've thought about, but how do I join the pieces together in place? Glue?

A small wooden piece in each corner, about 20x20 mm that you screw the different parts into.

To begin with, tell the one-year-old that he can't be there and fiddle around!
Then you'll have time to build something nicer than that panel that's there now.
That string shelf that's on the floor, I hope it's screwed to the wall.

I hope that string shelf standing on the floor is screwed to the wall.
hehe, thanks for the concern
