I'm going to cast a slab in my house, and I've started thinking about what to do with the sill in the "old" outer wall. As you can see in my absolutely fantastic self-drawn drawing, the house looks as follows: the old timber frame (the large rectangle) and the extension (the small rectangle). The red part is the sill piece I would like to replace with something else, Hand-drawn house plan sketch with two rectangles; red shaded area represents a beam to be replaced. Old wooden wall foundation with timber beams and stones; potential renovation area with focus on the sill beam discussed for replacement or reinforcement.

I'm considering cutting it away piece by piece and replacing it with leca beam, which you raise up against the remaining log and put some expanding mortar, or whatever it's called, underneath. The reason for this is that it will end up below floor level, surrounded by Styrofoam and gravel, and I'm not sure how well it will fare over time.

Question #2 is that it will be a divided sill on the wall facing the extension: leca beam at the extension, and then it goes back to timber outside the extension. Do I then need to reinforce the log above? Since it will be the first "whole" log on that wall? For example, set some form of iron that helps to hold it together by doors or similar? (About half remains by the door)

Grateful for thoughts and ideas.

Don't think it will feel particularly bad with foam and gravel. Gravel is capillary-breaking. Completely unnecessary and wasted work if you ask me.
