We had a roof leak earlier this year and needed to remove drywall around a window. Now I'm thinking of restoring it myself and have put up the drywall. But I realize now that I will need to do quite a bit of spackling. Is this how it's usually done?

I placed the beveled part inward towards the room, so I will need to build up with spackle to make it straight. (in the first picture not all screws are tightened) In picture 2 you can see how it looked earlier around the window.

  • Interior view of a window with newly installed drywall around it, showing screws not completely driven in and needing spackling for finish.
  • Drywall installation around a window, not all screws are in place yet, with an arrow indicating the direction towards unfinished areas.

I don't get the problem.
Less sneaking, less filler?

I see that I made a mistake. In image 1 on the left, you can see how the reveal looks in general. Now I have placed the rebated part of the drywall against the 90-degree edge, so I will need to apply quite a bit of filler for the same height. Is this how it's usually done?

Another thought, Do you need to apply a joint tape around the edge (image 2) or is filler enough? (it won't crack?)

Use corner braces instead of paper tape, they crack if you don't put something.
