Hello

I need some help, I want to open up a part of the wall on a load-bearing concrete wall. It is probably lightweight concrete or blue concrete. The problem is that it is a load-bearing wall on the lower floor (I have a split-level house). The opening should be about 150-180cm wide and the height is about 235 cm. The thickness is about 20cm. I suspect I need a steel beam. My question is, what type of beam would be needed? I'm attaching a floor plan where the black-painted area is the intended opening.

Anyone have any suggestions?
I was wondering if a glulam beam might be sufficient?

More information is needed. Year of construction, type of floor structure above the basement, drawings, preferably a section so that one can see how the roof loads are transferred down.

Oh difficult question, not really sure where to get these drawings. Year of construction is 1963, the rest is difficult to answer.

Call / email the municipality and they usually have some of what you need.

Ok, have emailed the municipality, will get back when/if I get a reply.

A photo from the outside showing what the roof looks like helps. the assessment. Check the basement ceiling from underneath. If there are traces of formwork, it is certainly a concrete vault. But drawings are best.
