I am going to replace my old stove in the summer cottage with a new one. The existing stove has a flue outlet down by the floor. Can I simply brick up this hole and open a new hole for the new stove? Or should a qualified craftsman or similar do this?

You can do it yourself. Also, close the flue downwards under your new entrance.

ok, currently there is a hatch on the opposite side of the existing hole. I assume this has something to do with the soot cleaning. So, this can also be sealed then? Since you say I should close the flue downward

I would keep the sotluckan, because how else would you be able to remove the soot from the bottom. Depending on how large a hole you get after the old pipe, you can use bricks + mortar to fill the hole.

Alternatively, you can knock some nails into the flue in the chimney and then insert a stone and mortar under the new hole in the chimney to seal the flue downward and then have a cleaning hatch on the stove pipe.
