We have acquired a residential house with an accompanying barn. Behind the barn, there are remains of some building. The building is made of some kind of masonry blocks that I have never seen before. It appears to be some kind of slag products as material. The outside is in some places almost like glass. Has anyone seen something similar before? Age? The barn is likely built sometime in the 50s.

Close-up of a weathered, glassy block possibly made from slag, with cracked surface, part of an old masonry structure beside a snowy landscape. Snowy landscape with a red wooden barn, a small metal-roof structure, and a tree near a partially visible stone wall.

Slag stone? Where in the country do you live? Any old ironworks nearby?

Near Söderfors, and there is indeed an old steelwork tradition there.

That has been seen in various places, most recently when we visited Olofsfors Bruk in Nordmaling. See image. The children enjoyed picking up "turquoise gemstones" on the ground near the facade :)
