MDF with wood finish

Hello!

I'm going to build a speaker that I want to have a wood finish on. My first thought was to build with MDF and then glue on some kind of plastic veneer or laminate. But then I saw that you can buy MDF that has a front/back with other wood already glued on.

So what do you think is the cheapest and easiest to obtain?

Finished veneered MDF gives the best feel as it is real wood. Trying to apply foil afterwards can be difficult to make it look good. Moreover, it will give the impression of being budget speakers.
