Another thread about load-bearing in a segment-built Norrland house, this somewhat different from those I have seen in other threads here.
Moved this spring into a 2-story house from 1971 in the Stockholm area. According to source, the lower floor is carpentered/masoned on site and then a Norrland house ("Bräckevillan") has been placed on top as the upper floor. The house measures about 13.5m*9.4m. The roof trusses run from long side to long side. In 1997, the roof was changed to a hipped roof, where the new trusses were placed directly on top of the old ones. Floor plan and a couple of pictures below.
We are facing some renovations with associated removal of wall(s) on the upper floor and are desperately searching for information about construction and load-bearing capacity. The documentation held by the municipality is unfortunately lacking, basically only the following page from the "technical description" of Bräckevillan (i.e., the upper floor) provides something:
We are going to take down the red-marked wall below (the blue-marked block does not exist, there is only a cavity behind the fridge all the way through the closet). The longer part of the wall runs in the direction of the trusses and should be a "segment-separating wall" according to the technical description; I have also made a small opening from one side and see the 47x47 studs mentioned. Presumably, I see a similarly studded wall if I open from the other side. The interior walls running in the other direction (the small part that will be removed as well as the long one dividing the kitchen from the space with the stairs) match well with "Interior Wall" according to the technical description after some measurement.
We have actually had a constructor on site who has delivered a report and it is clear to proceed with the removal without load redistribution (the long interior wall running in the direction of the house is supposed to be a non-load-bearing wall).
That said, the constructor didn't seem familiar with these module/volume houses previously, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to ask some questions here too. To start with:
What does the collective of Byggahus think about the potential load-bearing in the segment-separating walls?
Can the trusses be self-supporting? I'm mainly thinking about the whole span from long side to long side being open in the living room.
Does anyone by chance have construction drawings or other materials for similar houses, or know where other copies of "Bräckevillan" exist and where the relevant municipality might have documentation?
Anything else worth knowing about these module-built houses?
