Wish to tear down part of a wall on the upper floor of a 1 1/2 story house built in 1978. It feels like the wall shouldn't be load-bearing, but it's a bit silly to just rely on feeling.

Refers to the "hjärtväggen" on the upper floor in the picture. Since the wall with gypsum is 75mm thick, a bit hard to measure exactly, the studs should be 45 (75-13-13=49). The lower "hjärtvägg," clearly load-bearing, is significantly thicker (90 I believe).

Any thoughts? Bring in a structural engineer or does everything suggest it's not load-bearing?

  • House section sketch showing upper floor wall marked in red circle, with measurements and labels "HALL" and "SOV".
  • Floor plan of a 1.5-story house built in 1978, showing a red circle around the upper floor wall, questioning if it's load-bearing.
The current wall is not load-bearing. The roof loads are carried down via columns and any support beams.
