We are going to convert the animal stalls in a barn into a warehouse and need to level the floor. The problem is that the level difference can be up to 200mm in some places. The ceiling height is also low, so we prefer not to increase the floor height more than necessary. The concrete in the current floor is good and stable and also quite thick in some spots, so I see no reason to break it all up and start over.
If we use standard concrete, I suspect that we will need to reinforce the entire surface and achieve a thickness of at least 5-7cm to avoid cracking. Would it be a better idea to fill the largest level differences with standard concrete (possibly sand underneath where the level difference is the greatest) and then use a self-leveling compound over the entire surface 10-15mm?
It would also be an advantage to have a colored self-leveling compound so we don't have to wait forever for the surface to dry completely before it can be painted. The floor should withstand the load from smaller forklifts/pallet trucks.
