I have joist hangers that are not fully screwed. They support a canopy with a span of 4m and 45x220 at 55cm centers. I'm not worried it won't hold, but what is correct regarding the number of screws? I have anchor screws available so I can screw in more, but will it be correct?
I think it looks sparse...

  • A joist hanger partially screwed into a wooden beam, supporting a canopy structure; query on correct screw quantity. Brick foundation visible below.
One shouldn't strive to fill all the holes in the joist hanger with screws; the holes are numerous to allow for placing screws in the right spot considering how the joists look and are positioned. A screw weakens the material it is screwed into. Specifically, it is a weakness when it is near the end or outer edge of the joist. Spontaneously, I think it looks good in the picture, even though I don't know anything about the load or properties of the screws. The screws in the joist attached to the facade are not near either end grain or edges, and they are not in "grain line" with each other. Completely okay. The screws in the other joist are admittedly close to the end grain, but it's not possible to do otherwise, and they don't really support anything; the joist hanger does. The only risk there is that the joist pulls away from the wall, and the screws in the end grain loosen. Possibly, I would have driven one or two screws from underneath...

Thank you! That's what I thought. The screen roof is situated between two walls/houses so they only hold the load from above.
