Hello, I've read through various threads with similar questions, but since I don't have the drawings and haven't moved in yet, I'm asking you - what do you think, is this a load-bearing column or can we remove it and put oak slats/trellis instead?

If it's load-bearing... maybe one can put an oak trellis in the gap and then clad the existing column in oak? That might be clunky... any other suggestions?

I have painters coming a few days after moving in, so I'd like to have demolished / plastered / ... before then.

Thank you very much in advance!

  • White staircase with a central support beam and railing, leading to an upper floor. A framed poster hangs on the wall above the stairs.
  • Open staircase with a railing leading to a dining area. Question about structural beam and possible replacement with oak slats.
It is clear that the column was added after the railing was installed and the hole in the ceiling does not require any support, so it is 99% non-load-bearing.

Sometimes, in the case of factory-built modular homes, temporary supports are used to transport the module. Sometimes, someone forgets to remove them later...
