Install chimney in vaulted ceiling
Hello!
I am having trouble finding a suitable chimney route in a room with a vaulted ceiling (42 degrees externally, 27 degrees internally). We want the stove by a wall where the outer roof is low, but we want the chimney to exit reasonably close to the ridge externally. One aesthetic solution to this is to run the chimney parallel to the interior ceiling, between the rafters. From what I understood from the chimney sweeps, they thought this was okay as long as the entire chimney is inspectable. The sweeping ball must also come all the way down from the roof to the stove, and this can become a problem with 27-degree bends if there is a blockage in the pipe. However, it is solvable if there is a cleaning hatch on the chimney inside between the rafters.
Does anyone have experience with similar issues? How did you solve it?
See the attached sectional image for an explanation of the described solution. Note that this concerns new construction; not alterations to an existing house.
Thanks for feedback and comments!
