Hello, I might have done something foolish I realize... (I've started another thread on the subject concerning the rebar more specifically, more about that below). Those of you responding, please know what you're talking about so you don't make me even more worried than I already am (hence the post at 3:25 AM). Today, I drilled a hole in my aerated concrete facade (house built in 1961, aerated concrete blocks, about 300 mm thick walls). This is on the basement level, meaning there are two more floors above, plus the roof. Above this floor, there is a concrete slab for the floor above. After some work, I managed to drill through from both sides and encountered a rebar now running through the hole (horizontally). In any case, I'm going to leave the rebar there, protect it from rust, and modify the ventilation pipe around the bar.

But did I drill in the wrong place? I thought I drilled high enough above the window not to affect any potential load transfer above the window, but maybe I didn't? Have I compromised the structural integrity? As I walk around the area, I now see that those who drilled for ventilation did it beside the windows. Marking on the picture, but further to the side (couldn't fit it in the picture).

Help...

  • Hole drilled above window in light concrete wall, reflection of person taking photo, ladder nearby; marked spot for ventilation adjustment.
Exactly, and if I have "skitit i det blå skåpet," can I fix it somehow?
