I am currently renovating a hallway with a staircase. It is an oak staircase. I would like to clad the opening in the floor structure with some kind of vertical oak paneling. That is, vertical panel pieces that are about 30cm long (tall). It seems almost impossible to find oak paneling for this. It's a small quantity as well. I am considering whether I could use planed oak. For example, 8mm thick and 118mm wide. But how much does this swell? Is it enough if I leave about a 1mm gap between the pieces?
