Call Anticimex!

Wasps do not eat wood.
Are you sure these aren't holes that have been there previously? At best, it could be an attack that is no longer active. Anyway, it's hard to tell from a picture what kind of holes they are, for example, how big they are. In the worst case, it could be a house longhorn beetle. That's why I suggest you contact Anticimex.
Start by checking here:

to see which wood-eating insects you have to choose from.

I guess blåhjon, but I agree; call Anticimex. They are your friend in these situations. It's not worth guessing how to get rid of them or determining if there's a risk of damage. In most cases where I've had Anticimex come out, it has been quite harmless, but I've probably had them out 4-5 times in 7 years and picked up pesticides myself 3-4 times. All on the home insurance, so it feels good to get something out of that too

Check with the insurance company if they have an agreement with anticimex.
You didn't answer the question about whether the holes are new. Maybe they've been there for a long time and are no longer active? Blåhjon attacks debarked wood. Was there any bark left on these boards?

Yes, they do. They gnaw on wood to build their nests.Sommartorparn said:

However, I don't know what TS has experienced.

Thanks, I learned something new there!molarin said:
But, they don't dig tunnels in the wood, do they?
Considering the attack was under the bark, I also guess bark beetles, but it's best to have a chat with anticimex anyway.
I think it's the spruce bark beetle that did it... it's only where the bark is, right?
And leaves behind a "powder"?
It definitely happened right after the house was built. I don't think it's happened anymore since. However, it looks new because the bark protected the wood earlier and then gradually fell off. I have that in my house too. No worries!
