Hello!
If this is the wrong forum, someone can feel free to move the thread or direct me to the right place.
In my current residence, there is a windowsill in MDF. Outside of these sits a marble-like shelf, with a gap to the actual windowsill of 3-4 cm. Because these marble shelves protrude awfully much from the wall, I want to remove them, and also the windowsill, to replace with a slightly larger windowsill.
Today the windowsill is 10 cm deep and about 1.1 cm outside the wall. I would instead like it to be about 15.5 cm deep, which results in about 6.5 cm outside the wall.
My thought for the new windowsill is glued wood panels in either 18mm or 27mm, but I'm not completely ruling out MDF.
The questions then become:
1. Do I need to cut slots for ventilation where the windowsills are located above the radiator?
2. Do I need "support" (not sure what it's called) under the part that protrudes from the wall?

In my current residence, there is a window sill made of MDF. Outside of these, there is a marble-like bench, with a gap of 3-4 cm to the window sill itself. Since these marble benches stick out enormously from the wall, I want to remove them, and also the window sill, to replace them with a slightly larger window sill.
Currently, the window sill is 10 cm deep and approximately 1.1 cm outside the wall. I want instead to have it about 15.5 cm deep, resulting in about 6.5 cm outside the wall.
My idea for the new window sill is glued wood in either 18mm or 27mm, but I am not completely ruling out MDF.
The questions then become:
1. Do I need to router grooves for ventilation where the window sills are above radiators?
2. Do I need "support" (I don't know what it's called) under the part that sticks out from the wall?
Thank you very much. I've actually been around for quite a while, but as a passive observer.Alfredo said:
It's a condominium, and to be safe, I've verified that it's okay for us to replace the windowsills.
Apart from the primary reason mentioned above, the old windowsills are damaged by water from rain and/or watering from the past. If you forget the windows open, it might rain in, if you're unlucky.
The overhang is not a problem at all.E ErikMR said:
It would be interesting to see your existing board. Especially the marble construction.
