Hello!
We have bought a 1920s house in need of renovation and have now removed all the wallpaper from the walls in the dining room and living room. Behind all the layers of wallpaper and stretched paper, we have now reached the log frame. Now we want to put up studs on the wall and add drywall to get new straight walls and incorporate the electrical wiring. By one of the windows, vertical, thick water pipes run from the basement up to the upper floor. They are connected to an old cast iron radiator right by the window. The problem now is that if we are going to put up the wall here, these pipes are in the way. How can this be solved in the smoothest way? The wall will become too thick if we try to build them in. But it's difficult to fit studs and drywall behind.

I'll add a picture tomorrow if that can help...

Either switch to new copper pipes and enclose them, which is what I would have done. Otherwise, enclose them in a box that protrudes a bit from the rest of the wall.
