Need to cut a couple of posts on the plot that have been cast in asbestos cement pipes. Unfortunately, it's difficult to dig up the entire post.
Anyone have tips on how I can do it in the best way?
Considering wetting the asbestos, putting a transparent plastic bag over the post, making a small hole in the plastic, and then drilling a number of holes and filling with expanding cement?

Pick it up instead. Then you won't have to think about it. It might be possible to lift it straight up with jacks.

Had hoped to avoid digging up the plinths as they are 80 cm deep with a large concrete lump at the bottom but it's probably just something that has to be done.

Large angle grinder with a diamond blade or a stone blade and it's done in a few minutes. The embedded iron you naturally cut with a steel blade.

The plinth is cast in an eternit channel so I'm a bit worried considering the asbestos.

lift off the pedestal if you're worried about cutting the eternit

Is it possible to crush the eternit with a hammer so that it detaches from the concrete?

Then you would wet it first and cover it with plastic.

I read that. But firstly, it's outdoors and secondly, you're not cutting eternit as a profession day in and day out. And thirdly, I guess you're not a heavy smoker either. Which in this case does not matter much.
So the eternit is not a problem at all. That's why I gave practical advice on quickly cutting the post. Because that was what you wanted to get done.

I finally dug around the plinth, toppled it, and filled it back in.
