In the fireplace in the summer cabin, some previous fool has burned so much that the fireplace has separated from the chimney. See picture. How would you fix it? The plan for next year is to renovate the living room and install an insert. But until then, I would still like to be able to have a fire this fall. Any tips?

Is it really due to intense firing then? Looks more like it has come off for other reasons and movements. How does it look from underneath then? Looks more like someone has built something onto an old chimney, so how the smoke channel runs is quite interesting. If it were leaking in that way, the white part should be pitch black, right.......
Yes, it does. The house has been in the family since it was built in 56, but rented out for about 10 summers 10 years ago. It split apart when someone who rented it burned as much as possible and a little more. Dad saw when it happened.
