Hello!

As project #2 (number one was casting large gate posts) I will demolish an old wall and now build a new one that will serve as a retaining wall for our parking area, which is ~60cm higher than the adjacent lawn. See the image below.

Stone retaining wall with a large tree in front, adjacent to a driveway with a parked trailer. A house and rocky landscape are visible in the background.

At the moment, I'm considering two different methods for the upcoming project.

Method 1: Cast a footing in concrete and stack wall blocks as below.

Concrete block for wall construction, related to a discussion on building a retaining wall for parking; considering concrete form or stacking blocks.

Method 2: Cast a wall like the one below with disposable casting mold.

Stone retaining wall with concrete steps and two potted plants at the base, leading up to a grassy area.

Concrete mold with a textured pattern, leaning against a support, intended for creating a retaining wall in a parking area renovation project.

What speaks for method #2 is that I can build a mold that fits the small rocky knoll situated to the right in the image below. I then avoid having to cut wall blocks, and I can also embed LED lights in the wall facing the parking area. Plus, I enjoy working with concrete... ;-)

Image of a garden with a partially collapsed stone wall, tree in the foreground, and a driveway at a higher elevation. A red circle highlights a rock outcrop.

The question is where do I find these disposable cellular molds? I know that Sundolitt has two models but surely there must be more suppliers of these molds?!?

Has anyone else cast a wall with disposable molds, and what should one consider beyond the usual for concrete casting (i.e., stable formwork, reinforcement, and vibration)?

Take care and have a fantastic continuation of your Friday!

Best regards, Stefan :)

I saw that Ahlsell also has some form of disposable matiser for casting.

See link >> here

Some feedback for myself and those interested in casting walls with patterned sides.

Nova Betonggolv offers single-use matrices (and also matrices for patterned concrete that can be reused) >> link

HydraTec also offers the same matrices as Ahlsell (brand Valero, see post above). These matrices can be used multiple times under certain conditions >> link
