Casting around new well and drainpipe

Hi, a plumber has replaced a cast iron drain with a Purus drain in the laundry room in our basement. What should I use to fill it in? Fast-setting concrete or patching compound?

I just did the same thing, used regular fine concrete. But there are surely many materials that work.

Initially thought of using regular concrete but read somewhere that it has to cure for a long time before laying new tiles.

It should ideally be about 2-3 months before the covering.

I have a similar situation where I have a drainpipe from a previous kitchen that's going to become a laundry room. When sealing it with concrete, is it just a matter of pouring the concrete into the hole, or should I clear away gravel and loose stones first, or can they stay as a base? And do I need to "insulate" the drainpipe so it's not entirely against the concrete? Like with some foam or rubber matting?

Just straight down with the concrete, stamp it a little so it becomes compact, you can put an asphalt paper on top to keep the pipe a bit loose. If it's new plastic pipes, they'll move a little when hot water comes in.

Yes, that was what I was worried about if the concrete was placed directly against the pipe, that it wouldn't be able to move sufficiently with the house settling. It's an old kitchen from our rental unit, so there probably won't be any movements because it's new.
