We have bought a house from '47 with rendered walls in the basement. Since the render is worn, we have decided to knock it off and reapply it.

After the render was knocked off, the walls look like this.

Is this surface suitable for rendering?

Most of the render is gone, so the surface in the picture is now somewhat even. It also doesn't release much render when you run your hand over the surface.

  • Basement wall with old plaster mostly removed, exposing a rough, even surface with minimal plaster residue. A small window is visible to the right.
  • A basement wall with removed plaster, revealing a brick or concrete surface with a radiator and a small window above. The surface looks smooth and stable.
  • Basement wall stripped of plaster showing a rough, uneven surface with some remaining patches and pipes on the right side.

Works great, but pre-water a little.
And then prime with loose 3 mm c mortar.
Then apply with C mortar 3 mm, and then plaster.

Thank you for the quick and clear response! 🙏

Or water a lot before the primer.
Don't know what the floor looks like, but it should be covered well.

That one applies a layer of plaster after priming, often 5-8 mm.
A bit depending on the wall, if something is crooked, you align the wall with the filling.
