Hello!
Planning an extension of my house with exterior dimensions of 7.2x9.6 meters over two floors. Four bedrooms on the upper floor and an open plan kitchen/living room on the ground floor. I would need some help with the size of the intermediate floor beams.
My idea is an HEA beam in the middle along the length of the room with a support in the middle. Then wooden beams fitted into the HEA beam from the side. The span should therefore be about 5m for the HEA beam and 3.3m for the wooden beams. What dimension of HEA beam should be used, how robust should the support be, and which wooden beams?
Or perhaps someone has a better suggestion?

Hello Buick, welcome to the Bygga Hus forum!
Here you can start reading a bit, I have exactly the same construction that you are sketching:

I can't do that, but I'll tell you how the "calculation" of my beam went:buicken said:
At the building consultation, we discussed the large open span over the living room and how it should be constructed. My quality supervisor looked at the floor plan, thought for about 10 seconds, and said, "We'll use a 200 mm HEA-beam." So it was decided. The beam cost 5,000 SEK and rests on a 95x95 mm wooden pillar at each end.
Hello. I have calculated this for you and suitable dimensions are as follows:
Beam HEA 220
Joists 45x220
I have calculated for a 10 meter span with support in the middle. I haven't calculated the supports, but if you choose 95x95 you will be on the safe side.
Good luck with the construction // Marcus
