I am in the process of buying a cottage that will be renovated from top to bottom. I would need help calculating either an HEA beam or glulam for the intended (desired) floor plan that I am attaching. The difficult part is that about 430 cm from the right gable into the living room (i.e., about one meter to the right of the chimney), there will be a wall on the upper floor, which is also intended to partially support the roof.
A new roof structure will be built from the outside, where I plan to place a glulam at the ridge that will interact with the "ridge beam." This, in turn, needs a load-bearing wall that is more or less exactly in the middle of the house. On the lower floor, there will not be a load-bearing wall underneath, which means I would need a steel beam in the intermediate floor.
See drawing and get back to me if it is even feasible.
