We want to build a small staircase for our utility entrance. The problem is that there is a small rock outcrop outside with level differences. On one side, there is room for maybe 2 steps and on the other at least one, and maybe two more. How can one build it in a neat and functional way?
Yellow house entrance with uneven grassy ground and rocky slope, potential site for building steps. House entrance with uneven ground, showing a yellow door on a beige wooden wall, surrounded by grass and ferns, posing a challenge for building steps.

Do you want the staircase from straight ahead, from the right or from the left?

I would have done it like this...
(The step on the left becomes unusable when the door is open, but you can step over the step from the right instead of having to back down)

Make a platform as large as you need to have space to put down what you have in your hands and still be able to open the door.

Sketch of a building's entrance with steps and door. Right side shows side view with platform. Suggests entrance solution for better door access.

we probably prefer it to the left.. We're thinking of possibly making a platform in front of the door, and then the staircase down in some way, if you understand?

Yes, it works perfectly.
