We are planning to convert an extra living room into a bedroom by installing a wall and adding a door. The current living room and hallway have a fairly fresh laminate/click flooring that I estimate is 5-6 years old.

We do not really wish to replace the floor now but want to keep it. However, I think we will want to change the floor before we might consider tearing down the wall again. But we're probably talking at least 5 years into the future.

Is there any problem with building the wall directly on the floor now and in the future, when we want to change the floor, just "cut" it alongside the wall, so we can lay new flooring in both what will be the bedroom and living room? That is, the floor under the wall remains. Or are we doing ourselves a disservice by not changing the floor right now?

You can always cut away the floor where the wall is going to be 😉
