Hello. We are renovating our house, which is a Hultfreds house from 1988, where we have two columns that we wish to remove. The columns initially stood as ends at each half-wall (see drawing). We have demolished the half-walls and now wonder if we can also remove the columns.

The columns are hollow and do not go through to the attic or basement. One column stands on the living room's parquet. The other column stands on masonite. After the half-walls were removed, they are relatively movable.

The columns are located at the yellow markings on the image.
What do you think?

The likely purpose of the pillars was to stiffen the half-height walls so that they would not tilt if someone bumped into them.
