Air gap - cut away part of/drill holes in the fiberboard?

I have torn down the interior of the cabin due to moisture problems. There was no air gap in the roof. Currently, there is asfaboard on the walls all the way up to the roof sheathing. Can I saw off part of/drill holes in the asfaboard now when I'm creating an air gap to improve ventilation?

Yes, you can do that. Don't forget to install insect screens so that small animals don't get in.
