We bought a split-level house just over a year ago where the previous owners had Anticimex conduct a moisture investigation on the lower level, which mainly consists of "concrete elements and 180mm Leca". Inside this, there were studded walls with wooden studs.

A "pungent smell" was noted in one of the corners, and they were instructed to tear these down and replace them with lecablocks which were then mortared/sanded and painted.

Apart from making these walls extremely crooked, we also saw that instead of an air gap, they filled the space between the new wall and the outer wall with insulation.

Is this correct?

  • Close-up of a rough concrete wall cavity with yellow insulation filling the gap, lacking a ventilation space.
